Table tennis is a sport that lasts an entire lifetime. Sunrise Table Tennis Club (STTC) allocates resources for helping juniors to learn and participate in the sport of table tennis. The program includes regular lessons from one of our club coaches to learn and practice the basic skills of our sport, which also impart life skills such as sportsmanship, competitive spirit and self-discipline.

Table tennis is a sport that lasts an entire lifetime and teaches life skills such as sportsmanship, competitive spirit and self-discipline. New students may show up at the scheduled lesson time to enroll. There is no required advance payment or registration.


Lesson Fees

The suggested donation per lesson is $10.00. This does not include the $3.00 entry fee for the Countryside Recreation Center. New students may show up at the scheduled lesson time to enroll. There is no required advance payment or registration.

Training Schedule

The Junior Training program consists of a group class (maximum 10 students) held each Saturday at Countryside Recreation Center. The group classes are conducted from Noon to 3:00 pm.

Private Lessons

If the student desires to take his training to the next level, there are three STTC coaches that can offer additional private lessons: Coach John, Coach Gary and Coach Gorak.

Tournament Fees for Junior Players

All entry fees for STTC tournaments may be partially or fully subsidized for juniors actively participating in the JT. Juniors are encouraged to enter tournaments to gain playing experience and to develop good sportsmanship.

JUNIOR TRAINING LESSON PLAN

The following list is the general order in which the elements of table tennis will be taught. Each student will progress according to his or her learning ability, and therefore, there is no time frame associated with each element.

MULTI-BALL
In the early stages of development new players cannot keep a rally going, so a technique called multi-ball is used. Using a basket full of balls, the instructor will hit balls to the student. The student will attempt to return the ball to a specific target on the table. The instructor will keep hitting balls from the basket, and the student will get quality practice through repetition.

GRIP
How to hold the paddle.

READY POSITION
The position of the feet and the body in relation to the table when waiting for the opponent to return a shot.

FOOTWORK
Moving into the correct position to return the opponent’s ball.

IMPORTANCE OF SPIN ON THE BALL
Being able to control the flight and position of the ball.

For those students that want to become play competitively in the sport of table tennis, there are certain elements of the game that they can practice at home without a table.
